In close collaboration with the Clanwilliam Publicity Association, we have set about marketing the CIRCLE ROUTE.
From Clanwilliam you travel up Pakhuis Pass and through the beautiful upper section of the Cederberg to Botterkloof Pass. The scenery along the way is spectacular at any time of the year. At the top of Botterkloof Pass you turn left and the road meanders through the Southern Bokkeveld, at times almost in sight of the escarpement of the Bokkeveld range. This road takes you to Nieuwoudtville where you should spend a night.
From Nieuwoudtville the road takes you to the top of Van Rhyns Pass. What a view!!!.
At the bottom of the pass the road strikes out across the Knersvlakte to Van Rhynsdorp. From there you can either proceed via Klawer and Trawal directly back to Clanwilliam. Alternatively make a detour and travel the wine route to Vredendal and Lutzville and from there on to the coast at Strandfontein.
You can of course do the Circle route the other way starting at Nieuwoudtville!! |
