The Greatest Flower Spectacle

Brunsvigia Bosmaniae is without a doubt one of the world's greatest floral spectacles. Unfortunately this mass flowering is extremely difficult to predict and does not necessarily occur every year. The trigger for flowering is a downpour of not less than 15mm in February or March. Almost to the day, hour and minute, 3 weeks after a downpour, the flowers will be fully open.

The reason for this unpredictability lies in the fact that although Nieuwoudtville has a Mediterranean climate (dry summers and wet winters) the triggering factor for flowering is a late summer spill-over of rain from the neighbouring summer system, which does not occur every year.

Once it has rained, the Brunsvigia bosmaniae flower season can be predicted. If you are interested in seeing this spectacle, please provide me with your e-mail address and I will notify you.
